well put blur. i too feel it would be a crying shame to see the camaro more powerful than the vette. it's just not right. the camaro is a pony car. now don't get me wrong, as long as it's cheap enough, i don't care if they put 2000 hp in the camaro. just make sure the vette has 2001 hp. lol

2. I would like to see the dyno of your transam that had 450hp from the factory... oh thats right ITS MODDED. I don't give a crap about mods. If your just after HP at the wheels per $. GO BUY A USED 2005 Mustang and drop a 3.4L custom whipple on it and be at around 30k for well over 600rwhp. 3. If your dissappointed with a vette.. serious dude. Your not going to get better than that for HP/$ from a MFG. Live with it, this car is to be sold to the masses, and the masses dont want HUGE HP at the wheels, only enthusiasts do. 4. Please show me another manufacture that gets more HP/Liter than GM in a consumer sports car and where in the power band it makes that.... In the end your asking for a race car from the factory, and for that your going to have to pay big bucks, why don't you go look into a saleen s7 or a koenigsegg. Your not going to find something like that for consumer car prices. Edit - Who said it wasnt the LS3? Even scott said that the management sometimes gets the displacements mixed up becuase they usualy use cid instead of liters as a reference... GoGoGo the panic sky is falling syndrome.

Okay now.. The 400HP+ news doesn't surprise me because we already knew that honestly.. What gets me is the 6.0 Liter. We have the LS2 and the L76. LS2 is automatically tossed for obvious reasons. Now were thinking about getting the horses out of the L76.... What if theres a whole new block GM is building for the V8 version of the Camaro.. Just a what if. I kind of doubt that though.....

LS2 being tossed - Correct. A new block - The LS3, and (my memory fails me, it's a truck engine) represented the last major deviations/editions to the GenIV engine lineup. I don't think that the LSA/LS9 count in statement. So...I definitely think that we're not going to get ANY engine as we know it right now. (i.e. We'll get some variation, much like the LS3 in the G8). But Peper could have confused the displacement. (as per Scott's post)

Here's my $.02
WOW!!! 400 HP ROCKS--no matter which engine produces it. I'm guessing about 420 HP. It stands to reason the Corvette will get a HP bump, which will leave room to give the Camaro more than the G8 GXP, but keep it under the Corvette. As long as it has 8 cylinders and a gas pedal, I'm Happy. After seeing the new Malibu, G8, and G8 GXP, I have absolutely NO doubt that the new Camaro will be a Knockout. My '99 Z-28 had 305 HP, the BASE new one will have about the same. What a difference 10 years makes! |

well, baiscally chevy doesnt want the camaro to top the vette in power. and i dont doubt the camaro will have a bad ass motor in it but why not make one as equal as the vette. sales will skyrocket. maybe take some from the vette, maybe take some from somewhere else but it wont hurt. camaro sales will be rediculous.

? 'Cause in an interview with Ed Peper (General Manager of Chevy -j/k-)...he said the exact opposite.Something to the effect of: "There is no concern with stepping on the Vette. They are two distinctly different cars. etc, etc." EDIT: Here is it, http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/11/d...with-ed-peper/ Quote:

Tired of arguing the same thing with you. I'm more than pleasantly surprised that the base V8 will have 400+ HP.
