I don't get why people are putting so much into this. He said nothing about a Z28 or any other high powered V8 car. All he said was that maybe more vast lower powered engines will be available in years to come. This doesn't mean the higher up engines are getting replaced with them.
Besides, I'd bet V8 sales in the Camaro are going to account for alot of it's total sales, and that, what people are spending their cash on, cannot be ignored, especially by a company in their situation.

Reality is 45~50K puts you in a vette... who is going to pounce on a Camaro in that price range when the C6 walks all over it for the same money? 2 people... that's my guess anyways. haha.

Some are scoffing at the V6 and it is a powerful and fast car. 304 hp and 140mph with no mods is not a girlie car. I will be purchasing just such a beast myself. If the 4 comes in with some stunning results I would even consider it. Let's wait and see what the genius minds do with weight issues, I am guessing these car geeks will sort out the issues and come back with a unbelievable machine.

A honda S2000 is faster and is only packing 237hp... there is a lot more to performance than just horsepower ratings.

I think there's a reason there isn't a turbo-4 for the "base" car now. It needs torque. This V6 is a GREAT engine but I need the sound of a big V8. Sure, if I never heard a big V8, I wouldn't know any better, but it's too late for that I think the writing's on the wall, but will still hold onto some hope for the next few years. If things don't happen by then, then I'll just go back to the drawing board.Quote:

I'm not sure what I'm thinking...but without a massive-output V8...I wonder if the SS and Z28 nameplates might switch "back"...with SS being the high-powered straight line car, and the Z28 being a moderately-powered track car, and the base Camaro being a "low" powered (I still maintain the current V6 is NOT low-powered) everyday car. This is pure speculation, and absolutely baseless...I'm just wondering.[/QUOTE]
The Z28 is was and should be above all a "Track" car it's why it came into existance. Think low and flat cornering (1.0 G) with strong brakes (100' 60-0). Along with this should be a strong engine, but a DI V6 with twin turbos pushing over 400 HP would be awesome! I will buy this kind of performance. If you want more build it.

What doesn't make sense is that he confirms a CTS-v coupe, which is what the Z28 would have been pretty close to. Yet dampens the idea of the Z28. Why build one and not the other? There is an outcry for a Z28, a CTS-v coupe on the other hand is not being begged for.
