I figure, and being honest, I wouldn't do more than 2-3 track events a year. I more or less want something that I can adjust to my liking to take on th back roads for weekend trips and making driving outside of the daily grind fun and enjoyable. I've done a couple performance driving schools and track events to know I'm not a track rat, nor do I want to try and be a race car driver, I just enjoy spirited driving. I'd think I'd be able to stay away from dry sump, but maybe down the road if I really get the bug. How much is a conversion on the LS3?

It's the nature of the beast. increasing intake size/volume without increasing cylinder volume(displacement) kills intake velocity, which is part of where the torque comes from.
A ported intake with only a slightly over-bore TB might be a better way to go.
The guy in the thread linked I think used a FAST intake and 102mm TB, which might be a little overkill for the stock displacement, at least if torque loss is a concern.

You are right, you won't need a dry sump. The conversion for those that road course are expensive. On the low end $2,500 to $5,500 on the high end.

I just picked up a 15 1LE and so far have added LG Headers a SLP CAI, Bo White ported TB and DMS/CCP-113 cam and am now at 470 rwhp.

I was going to do heads but I'm doing the ECS kit next.

Real happy so far-the cam idles real tough but drives real nice. I would love to be at 500 rwhp N/A.

If you don't mind me asking, how high did you have to raise your idle if any?

I have a preference for NA 1lEs that see road courses. SC 1LEs are better suited to the street and strip.

Congrats, how happy are you with the results? Going to hold out for a while on head work?

We share similar perspectives.

I've been reading a lot of Dropspeed's build thread as it looks like he and I have similar tastes and procedures as well.

His journal is my go to resource when I am contemplating my next modification. I love the combination of his experience and his pragmatic approach to modifying these cars.

How aggressive is the cam, say in comparison to a Katech Torquer? Also, how'd you pass smog with headers in CA?

Car sounds and looks great, congrats!

If you road race your car you should be considering the cam profile types and lift numbers. Aggressive lobe profiles and high lift are not ideal for road track builds. I have not been following any of the 1LE cam build threads but I just noticed there are a lot of cars on here getting very aggressive cams in their 1LEs which will work great at the drag strip.

The Katech Torquer LS3 uses aggressive cam lobes but the lift is not monster. With only 581 / .601 lift this is a very ideal for the race track.

You are correct. Add to that the power band and torque and most of the cams being used are not going to perform well on track. It is a classic athlete analogy. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.
