If you want to keep the stock shift knob then there is no need to pull the boot off the trim ring. If you want to go with the Hurst stick, you will have to peel the glued boot off the trim ring carefully. On my 2010, mine was glued but it came away fairly well. The kit comes with an adapting grommet that you zip tie to the boot. It's pretty secure and then you thread the Hurst stick through it. It all looks pretty good when it's done. |

Since this is a 1LE sub forum and not 1/4 mile drag strip, as far as shifter "feel" on a road course goes, I was always under the impression it was MGW >Zl1/1LE >Hurst Do bare in mind though, the engineers did a great job dialling in the ZL1 shifter in their tests on the ring, etc. For that reason alone, spending $$$ to swap out my 1LE for a MGW, is very low on my "what to do next list". Now as far as throw reductions are concerned, here is a very interesting post below: Quote:

You cannot just add the chrome stick and ball to the one you have now. The factory hurst short throw shifter is not the same one as the aftermarket Hurst. The newer short throws in the 5th gen is not even a Hurst shifter. Is it better than the stock one? That's debatable, I have the Hurst aftermarket in my 2014 and factory short throw on my 15 1LE....neither is bad but they are different. Hurst being a very short shift and very mechanical. The factory is a little bit longer throw but a smoother feel than the Hurst.

I really like the feel of my Hurst in my 2010. I almost knocked myself out pulling the stock knob off though. lol From what I gather the 2012/1LE is easier to remove. There is an increase in noise but nothing really bad.
