Don't think it matters whether its auto or manual, as long as it has a catch can.

I don't disagree, especially with your last sentence, and am fully aware that my group is a dying breed. I just love the feeling of connecting with my car and the road. Manuals are one of those old-world charms that need to be preserved

Well....im not putting it to bed yet as far as manuals go.....my wife really enjoys driving the l99. ...this may open the door to an LS3 for me....if I graciously give her the l99.

Just curious to see if there are anyone still, these days, that can drive a manual car?

The thing is, I know exactly what he's getting at. I wouldn't use quite the same description, but there is something about the sound of an automatic as it runs up through its gears that's a dead giveaway for what it is (the A10 in the new ZL1 and presumably running in some sort of track mode is the only exception I can even think of).

I've been driving MT cars since before I had my license - all of my practice driving including the seat time in the H.S. driver ed cars. Something like 53 years at this point. But my younger sister (65) and brother (59) have either never driven MT at all, or so rarely that it might as well be 'never'.

My wife learned MT driving about 45 years ago, both kids and so far one of the grand-kids have driven stick since before they turned 17 (NJ license age).

I think it helps point kids toward driving stick if they're constantly exposed to it as simply the way some cars work. It's perhaps easier/less scary once you've watched people work a MT and seen that it's really not all that difficult.

I like manual cars and enjoyed plenty throughout the years, but I love my A6 ZL1. When in sports mode and using the paddle shifters at hard accelerations, I always shift right before the redline... that exhaust note is hard to explain, kinda like sex in the ear. Leaves it all moist and wanting more.

Well I'm 24 and my Camaro is a manual and its sooo much more fun for me. I can't go back to automatic because I feel like i have more control of the car when driving with a manual.

I actually drove 3 hours to pick up one of the only manuals in all of Southern California. There are a ton of autos out there and more power to you, my DD is an auto, but I also take the Camaro out daily just to enjoy driving it.

I'm of the mentality that sports cars should be manuals. I do love the sequential gear boxes that you get with European cars, I have a friend that has a 458 that is beyond phenomenal to drive, the shifting is instantaneous.

They both have their own merits and all it comes down to is a subjective point of view, and let's face it, we buy and drive these cars for the experience, whether that's downshifting hard or holding second through the onramp or whether it's being able to just mash down the peddle and go....to each their own.

I have a 71 Ford that's a 3 on the tree, a 72 Ford that's a 4 speed auto, along with a Harley, the SS and a DD auto and it all comes down to overall experience.

The manual just gives more control,I'll take a stick over auto anytime on snow, especially when electronic traction control is involved

I've gotten to the point where I prefer an automatic for most of my driving, even with my Camaro convertible. But... I do have my Saturn Sky with manual five-speed and get such a kick out of that thing! I heel and toe on every corner and blip the throttle for every downshift just for the sheer joy of it.

The manual, to the few who don't worry about the ultimate performance in a straight line, it is about total control and mastery of what they are doing, its playing in concert with a real instrument, that requires a particular feel and skill set. Can an auto be faster? Absolutely, but then again so could a computer controlled car with no driver. Its about keeping an analog kind of experience.
Agree 100%. It's about being connected and engaged with the act of driving a wonderful sports car. Its about the direct connection between the engine and the road under the control of the driver. And its about putting the drivers skill/ability into the equation. My ride is a 2010 2SS RS and I smile each time I take it down the road.

Never liked the slippage you get in a rubber band box. I test drove a 2012 grand sport corvette centennial edition a week ago which was an automatic and it was just OK. If it had a stick, it would be in my driveway
