I ran at least 3 tanks of 93 before I did this, hope this helps.
I would have made their dumbasses drain the tank. I would never run a full tank of 87 through that engine right off the lot. And they need to be punished for stupidity.

As for the idle, hehehe, yeah. it is supposed to be like that.

Also bear in mind that idle is basically the bear minimum the engine needs to do to...stay running. So you will notice when it's cold the computer idles it higher, and when it warms up it idles lower. That isn't going to be the smoothest way to operate the engine, no, but...it's fine.

As many have already stated before...it's normal because of the camshaft. Just how V8's here in the US feel and run.

Mine idled rough until I put my Roto-fab on and it doesn't idle nearly as rough.

i have never seen a performance car that had a perfectly smooth idle.they are a lot smoother than they used to be.when i had my 70 Z28,with the LT1,that tach would jump all over the place while idling.

My 2ss does the same thing, and has since the day I picked it up. I wouldn't describe it as a rough idle. It just seems to get an extra vibration every 10 seconds or so. To me, a rough idle is something that is heard and felt. Mine is only felt. A rought idle, to me, is one that seems like it's about to stall, and surges to stay running. I honestly believe it is
the cam specs and maybe GM purposely tuned it that way to give it a musclecar feel. I love it. My car runs great and has no problems. Enjoy your car.

No big deal..

I started to ask if anyone had tried running NGK iridiums and if it smoothed out the idle any....they helped the idle on the Cobras I've owned.
Nothing I can't live with, not bad at all,but if it can be a little smoother with a plug change that would be great...

I've had big cammed cars....if I am going to have a rough idle I'd like the lope to go with it.
I don't think it is the cam itself...but more a combo of factors including the closed loop fueling cycle...during closed loop the ECM,using the O2's, is constantly adjusting to maintin stoich...this causes the fueling to cycle lean-rich-lean-rich..the partial miss you feel every few seconds is the lean swing in that cycle..
Cam might be part of it...but the cam isn't radical enough to account for the miss by itself jmo..
Again,it is very mild IMO..

I'd say that you might have crappy/low octane gas the dealer gave you might contribute to a more pronounced lope than normal. Try going with a high octane with good additives such as Chevron or Shell and see if the lope of the cam is as rough.

The cam "lope" in the LS3 is actually much milder than my Dodge 5.9L... pretty common for large displacement Detroit V8s to drop some RPM's at idle and shake the vehicle in the process at pretty regular intervals.

You can smooth it out a bit with a better designed intake. The better the flow past the MAF, the steadier the idle will be. The stock intake just doesn't have a whole lot of flow engineering done to it, at least it doesn't look like it. Probably no coincidence mine idled a bit smoother with a Halltech CAI than with the factory airbox.

Sometimes indexing the spark plugs can improve an idle steadiness also. It's a debateable topic but I've seen it work. Only smoothed out the idle a bit, no extra power. If some of the OE plugs just happened to be indexed in a bad position.

The cam really doesn't have much duration or tight LSA to be causing much idle lopiness. Maybe a hair. But some of that roughness can be cleaned up with attention to perfection. They also smooth out a bit once fully broke in after several thousand miles.

I must say that every LS3 I'v seen and heard "idles rough" this is a normal condition. If you are worried or unsure you should take it back and have it checked out.

Well I had a 400+ hp ZR-1 with the LT5 ( 4 cams, 16 fuel injectors, 32 valves) and we could balance a nickel on its side on the plenum.

Good to see you got your signature to... fit? I wish I was a big enough mustang fan to troll their boards.
