Locked keys in while running

Well I am in the National Guard in IL and was at my unit for the first time after buying my 2010 2SS so I had to show it of to some of my buddies. I had the car parked in the parking garage where we were and I went a head and started the car for them popped the hood and shut the door. After showing off the goodies under the hood I went to open the door shut the car off and both doors were locked! Needless to say I was upset and highly embarrassed because military guys will never let you live down the fact that you locked your keys in you sweet ride running. But the main point of this thread is that the wrecker driver told me that should not lock with the keys in the ignition but all the metal in the parking garage basically caused the computers to have issues interfacing and caused the cat to lock. So just be safe out there guys and leave your does open or a spare set of keys close.
P.S. before anyone asked I do not have onstar still HAHA

Not sure how true that whole not locking when the keys are in the car thing is. I locked my key in the trunk once. and it was in an open parking lot. I did have onstar, and was able to call and get it unlocked within a few minutes though.

Anyway, I was having the same trouble with my car always locking itself when it was new for the first few days.. I had to leave the window down until I figured it out. There are settings in your radio to change how it locks itself.. I guess when they come new they just lock themselves all the time, but you can turn this feature off so you don't get locked out of your car anymore :-) Good luck !!

Lockout Protection
The vehicle can be programmed to prevent lockout if set in p ersonalization. If the driver door is open and the RKE lock button is pressed, the driver door will not lock. When the driver door is opened, and the key is in the ignition, a reminder chime sounds continuously. The vehicle remains locked only when both doors are closed. See Vehicle
Personalization on page 4-38.

Power Door Locks Select Power Door Locks and the following will be displayed:
• Unlocked Door Anti Lock Out
• Auto Door Unlock
• Delayed Door Lock
Unlocked Door Anti Lock Out
When on, this feature will keep the driver’s door from locking when the door is open. If off is selected, the Delayed Door Lock menu will be available.
Press the MENU / SELECT knob
when Auto Door Unlock is highlighted. Turn the knob to select On or Off. Press the knob to confirm and go back to the last menu

Auto Door Unlock
This allows selection of which of the doors will automatically unlock when the vehicle is shifted into P (Park) (automatic transmission) or when the key is removed from the ignition (manual transmission).
Press the MENU / SELECT knob
when Auto Door Unlock is highlighted. Turn the knob to select All Doors, Driver Door, or Off. Press the knob to confirm and go back to the last menu.
Delayed Door Lock
When on, this feature will delay the locking of the doors. If you want to
override the delay you can press the power door lock on the driver’s door.
Press the MENU / SELECT knob
when Delayed Door Lock ishighlighted. Turn the knob to select
On or Off. Press the knob to confirm and go back to the last menu.

Hey everyone. I have an FYI for you on car doors locking.

I work for a Road Side Assistance company and we are trained in vehicle entry.

We have discovered over the last few months that more and more cars are locking themselves while running. One of our guys had it happen to him, in fact.

Here is what him and his wife discovered. If you have a key fob and press the "unlock" once, it will unlock the car. (Usually the driver's door only). People start the engine, grab their snow brush or whatever and start cleaning their windows. They try to get back into the car, and the doors are locked. BUT...if they press the unlock button twice so both/all doors unlock, the car will not lock itself after you start it up.

Now I realize some of this can be changed with the settings on a lot of cars...but just a little FYI for you on ANY cars you own with power door locks and key fobs.

We go out to cars all the time and people are looking very sheepish when we get there. I hope this helps everyone.

Thank You, Thank you, Thank you. As an old school single guy that was always taught to open doors for ladies, I often pondered this with my Tahoe and now Camaro. Went out to the gargage and tried this on both vehicles and success. Problem /dilemma solved. The things you learn on this site...

We had our Dachshund lock us out of our truck on a camping trip. We were at a gas station to fill and it was hot and I had to go to the mens room. I was in line waiting to get to a pump so I told my wife to just pull up to the pump if it clears out while I'm gone. She does and decided it was so hot she would leave the AC on for the dogs and left it running and started to pump the gas. I came out and she went to the bathroom and I finished up the gas and went to get back in the truck and could not. The dog jumped into the front seat and ran to see me out the window and stepped on the power lock and locked it.

We tried for 20 minutes to get him to step to unlock it with no success. We were sweating our butts off outside the truck while the dog was shivering from the cool AC. A cell call to AAA and an hour later they let us back in (no onstar). Moral here don't leave the car runing with an over energized Dachshund in it. Now I always open the window and turn the truck off whenever he is in it.

That is a very common call for us as well.

I know if you rev it and then close the door it locks the car. Some guy on youtube did that to himself...lol He revved his car got out and opened the hood to show us the engine and after a minute or two he didn't even realize that the car locked itself. good thing he was home and not somewhere else. Im glad i have push start. If i leave my remote in the car it wont lock and even if i do it beeps and unlocks right way. If i leave it in the trunk it pops the trunk back open and also beeps.

yep, found that out in other vehicles too, if you unlock(hit the button) only once, it will lock itself again. Passenger side needs to be unlocked(hit twice) as well to stay open...
