Couple header questions..

I'm thinking about buying DT shorty headers for my car but how much do shorty headers really benefit these cars over the stock? I think I saw somewhere on here that a member with them got like 18hp / 35tq how accurate is that? I'm trying to keep my warranty for now so please no one say I should just get LTs.

My other question is about LTs though.. Every LT I've seen looks like they go all the way down past the factory cat connect point. Which has me wondering.. Will that mean that when my warranty is up and I want to upgrade to LTs will that mean I'll have to lose my solo high flow cats? If so it seems like I'll be out quite a bit of money that way cause I highly doubt after 5 years my high flows will be worth anything to anyone used.

There is no gain from shorty headers on these cars, I have personally dynoed a car before and after with no gains. Some people will say otherwise, those are either people trying to sell them or people that are trying to justify why they bought them. The stock manifold is a decent design. Most of the restriction is in the stock cats.

Shorties will help some but you would gain a ton more with long tubes. Long tubes will connect to your factory catback system (most long tubes) so you would lose your Solo cats. We carry a ton of header options, long tubes and shorties. Check it out.

Yup your Solo cats wont work with LT headers. Headers gave my car an unbelievable amount of extra butt dyno power. I am working on getting a tune for even more performance gains.

I talked to the guys at solo about this they said u can cut the necks off the cats and then the Lt's will work with your high flow cats. I dunno if that helps or hurts it but that's what they told me.

I have got solo high flow cats.. you said shorties are nothing with stock cats.. what about with high flows?

Its pretty much sounding like I'm stuck with the rusty stock headers then.. I just don't think I can justify spending that kind of money on something that gets seen so rarely if I'll get no performance increase along with it.. Oh well. More money for future mods after warranty is gone... penny saved, penny earned right?

Stock Manifolds are not bad. Traditionally Shorties would net you considerable gains but GM has gotten much better in the last 20 years.

With that said, Shorties look better and are about 1/3 to 1/2 the wieght depending on which ones you by. So that is honestly why most people get em.

Plus they retain the factory Cat location so you don't fiddle with the "warranty" aspect of the system.

Add a set of uncatted midpipes to them and well, that's another story. I've seen DT's with uncatted JBAs push darn close some LT numbers.

As far as the LT's go....yes, every set of true LT's will extend past the factory Cat position.

However, you can hypothetically reuse your Solos that you currently have provided they are the same in/out diameter as the LT's that you choose to install.

Hope this helps and feel free to call or email us if you need some more assistance.

If you are going to replace the stock cats..then you might as well have LT's. Once you remove the stock cats, you are in the same not street legal boat as LT's. Maybe some magical cats will prevent a check engine light, but as soon as you remove the stock cats, in the strict sense, you are not street legal. There is no way I would spend that much money on mods, make my car not street legal, and not have LT's, which make the most power.

Do shorty headers make the exhaust any louder?

I'm in FL and as far as I know there is no emission testing and with my current high flow cats I've got o2 extenders on them and haven't thrown a CEL yet (and shouldn't according to solo although I guess it still is possible.) I get what you're saying about LTs and the power and being street legal but as far as I know theres no emission testing here and I'm trying to keep my warranty so LTs are out of the question for now.

BTW I've already got my high flows and this thread was basically just asking if shorties are worth it now or if I'd be better off just waiting until my warranty is gone and getting LTs in the future.. That question I asked about LTs and my cats was pretty much just out of curiosity. Not trying to be rude or say I don't want your responses but if you're trying to sell me on LTs right now its not going to happen.

Thanks for the answers.. If all I'd gain from shorties is looks and less weight, which I assume isn't really too much less, I don't think I could justify the price on those for just those couple things.

Sorry for the tripple post everyone.. Idk how to quote multiple people per post or I would have just done that
