Lightbulb * Muffler Delete * Has Anyone Reused Their Stock Chrome Tips Again?

Hey everyone,...
Well,... It's getting close.
I should be getting my 2SS here in the next 2 weeks to so and I want to start ordering parts and accessories to go with it.

I think I've made up my mind and I'm going flat out with the Muffler Delete Setup with the Magnaflow Tru-X 2.50 Inch X-Pipe with the Resonators Removed . Yeah Baby .

My question is,... Has anyone Re-Used their Factory Stock Chrome Tips that were on their Factory Mufflers and just Re-Welded them on to the Replacement Straight Pipe?
Or,.. Do I need to Order 2 New Ones?
Whats the Widest Tip that will Fit in those Exhaust Port Holes? 5 Inch Chrome Tips?

How much room is there to cut those tips off?

Do you have ANY Tips (No Pun Intended) or Suggestions for me before it comes time to Start Cutting those Tips off of the Stock Mufflers?

I'm not the one that'll be doing it. As always and with my other vehicles,... I'll be having my friends down at a local muffler shop do the install for me so someone who actually knows what they're doing will be performing this operation for me.

So Please,... Any Help from you guys that have already done this will be appreciated very much.

A.K.A. Jim

+1

I had the mufflers removed, and my H-Pipe replaced with an X-Pipe. I left the resonators on (they're pretty small on the LS3), reused the stock tips, and it sounds amazing.

A good shop will have no problems cutting things properly and be able to re-weld them into place on the pipe that is going to replace the mufflers.

Hey Black....as a suggestion, if you don't use the resonated x-pipe like #11386 then you might leave your resonators on. You can always go back and take them off if it's to loud. Also...I would still suggest you call Jordan at JDP Motorsports and make sure he can't get you a better deal on the x-pipe. I would also just feel him out on his recommendations for your setup since he has sold and dealt with many of these.

Hey TSquared....which x-pipe did you use? Was it the Tru-X type or the muffler/resonated type?

I used the one that was suggested/offered in one of the other muffler delete threads. I think it was here. There was also a code for free shipping IIRC.

The muffler shop guy had no problem cutting and welding the factory tips...definitely do-able and can save some cash.

Think removing the resonators would actually change the sound or the volume??

How would it change? Particularly on the LS3 with the smaller mufflers? Getting muffler delete done and contemplating whether to leave the resonators on or take them off.

Reused mine. Also had them pushed out about an inch or so. You can actually see them now. Really adds to the look of the car.
