v6 vs v8

I have a v8 in my camaro, but with gas prices, I wonder how much it would cost to change it to a v6. any guesses

I'm sure plenty of V6 owners would trade you straight up so it won't cost a dime.

Don't take this the wrong way, but didn't you take the cost of gas into account when buying your car? I would think when buying a 30k vehicle you would have thought about whether or not you could afford gas for it. Sorry you're in a bind and good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Sell it outright. That swap is insane IMO.

If you change cars to a Yaris, or a Hybrid. Will you really see that much of a difference. I mean I had an escape hybrid and my v6 almost gets what it got mpg wise combined. But the additional 6k for those models never pay for themselves. You will hate a yaris or a civic. Sorry I was hung up on mpg for years 2005-2009, and the costs of owning and buying high mpg cars makes me wonder if it is really worth it. I LOVE MY CAMARO! I didn't love those cars they were like shoes I didn't really want to wear.

Sorry but in the last 5 years I have had a geo metro, a yaris, a ford escape hybrid and drove 100+ miles a day. Now I love my commute, my gas bill is about $65 a week. My escape was about $50 a week. If I had an SS it would be about $85-90 a week with Premium. How many weeks of saving $20 bucks will make up for not having an SS?

I had the V6 and got 16 city and 26 highway. I decided it wasn't enough to bother, so I traded to the SS and get 14 and 23. You may decide the V6 is not enough either.

Trade it in, they will probably give a brand new V6 Camaro for an SS.

Keep the V8! Camaros are supposed to be V8 powered. If you are worried about gas mileage, you bought the wrong car. Just my opinion......

Why is everyone hating on the V6? I have it, I love it, plenty of power for my needs...

I averaged 21.4 per the DIC on my LT and on my SS I'm getting 18.6, per the DIC. Exact same commute, and probably slightly harder driving habits with the SS.

The difference in the cost of gas is at most $7 or $8 a fill, and I'm quite certain this estimate is high. You'll save $400 a year. If you sell the SS outright YOU WILL lose thousands. I did by selling my 2LT. It'll take you 5 years to recoup $2,000 lost at the rate of saving $400 a year in gas.

Stick with the SS.

my son gets almost the same mileage 21.9 with the v6............he drives like 20000 miles a year which is why he got the v6..............he's started to save for the supercharger....by the time he saves enough money they should be available. then he will have the best of both worlds..........more than enough power for the street or occasional trip to the track and good mileage for the normal driving.

You should have got the M6. It's uber great and will save you MILLIONS in gas money. Plus you can rip throught the gears like a Jedi Knight in your awesome SPORTS CAR. The sunroof also adds to the "slipperyness" of the car so that saves some gas too. Add in some amsoil oil as well. EVERYONE knows that amsoil will net you 4+mpg along with adding 20whp. Putting it in the tranny and rearend will add another 10-15whp but your mileage will only go up 1 or 2. After it's all said and done, you should be getting around 30mpg which is better than most cars on the road these days.
