fwiw, all the LS3 dyno graphs I have seen show 350+ lbs-ft from 2000-redline.
The new 5.0 is below 300 until 3000-ish, and falls off more towards redline. So yes, it has great peak numbers, but it's not as stout as the LS. Which I suspect has everything to do with its smaller displacement. |

Hopefully I can give you some information Monday on this. Our car club is having a track day at the local 1/8 strip along with a Mustang Club on Sunday, I am sure I will run into a 5.0 there.

[QUOTE=Kermit1;3144425]Weight is the key, the camaro needs to shed about 300lbs.[/QUO
Well I dumped those shit can mufflers for the magnaflow muffler deletes. I've got some pfadt springs that need to go on (not that those will help) and a CAI will be ordered soon. My car only has 1500 miles so I want to wait a year before I void the warranty with a cam, headers, etc..... |

5.0 is faster stock for stock. But I still think a geared SS is stock. Right gearing in an LS3 and I think the race gets much more interesting.....

your right....Mustangs have gear advantage. 19" rims and 3.73 option gives them faster takeoff. equal that part up and SS will win since Camaro has torque advantage over mustang.

the 5.0 actually has more peak power than the LS3 BUT the area under the curve is where the LS3 dominates, especially when it comes to torque.

It would have been terrirble! lol. I think for the SS to win it needs a really good driver, if not add some more power. The essentials; headers, exhaust, cai, and a tune, and if your really wanting to beat him, a cam. You'll have no problem with a 5.0 with just a full headers system and a tune.

Let's make things fair and give them both aggressive gearing and we'll see what happens. Will the torque give the SS the advantage or will the weight hinder it. |

I took this from another thread here and though it would shed some more light on the subject. Also, the quickest 5.0's all have the highest gear set's. 3.73 is actually the slowest in the 1/4 but can transform into the quickest by upping the redline, but then its no longer stock. Just raising the redline on the 5.0's is good for .2-.4 in the 1/4 because it runs into the factory soft limiter at 6,700rpm which is 600rpm short of what its capable of. The new 5.0L really comes into its own once you remove the pesky soft limiter and start banging gears at 7,300rpm.

Although the mustang still has a slightly shorter overall effective gear ratio with these gears, you may be surprised to hear that the fastest mustangs are actually the ones with the tallest gears. The 3.31 in the manual mustangs has put down the best ETs and trap speeds as the 3.73 equipped cars have a hard time sticking and need a shift to fifth before the beams. The fastest of all of the 5.0s is actually the auto with the 3.15 final drive.

With equally perfect launches, the 5.0 will be faster than an SS manual, but only by a razor thin margin. In the real world, whoever launches and shifts the best will win. If you race your friend, you won't find out who has the better car, but rather who is the better driver.
The LS3 does have a better torque curve than the 5.0, but its more aggressive transmission ratios make up for it. The Mustang finishes the quarter near the 4-5 shift (actually after with the 3:73 rear), while the Camaro finishes near the 3-4 shift.
