For those who have been in a cave or traveling in outer space and missed the debut of the Camaro ZL1′s optional wheel set at Camaro5Fest II, we thought we’d highlight it here.

The Camaro ZL1 was shown at the event with a new set of wheels [photos here] not previously seen on the prototype car – the black wheels from the beloved Camaro SSX track car concept. In our opinion, these multispoke wheels evoke a bit of a sportier (track) image, especially in its black finish.

No word yet on how their weight or construction compares to the standard 20-inch forged aluminum wheels seen on the debut Camaro ZL1, nor what tires they will come wrapped in come production time.

A reminder to all that the 2011 Camaro5Fest II YouTube Video Contest submissions ends on Monday, May 2.

We saw plenty of attendees with cameras at Camaro5Fest II this year, so get those videos uploaded to your computers and edited! If it happened at C5FII we want to see it…

In GM’s live webchat Q&A (full transcript) on the day of the ZL1′s reveal at the Chicago Auto Show, GM mentioned that they were interested in knowing if there is interest in an automatic option for the ZL1. So the question has been posed by Camaro5 members who want such an option — Do YOU want to see an automatic option on the ZL1? ANSWER THE POLL HERE.

Now here’s the cool part! While at Camaro5Fest II, forum member DevilKnightFalcon spoke with John Fitzpatrick, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Performance Cars, who was already aware of the poll. John Fitzpatrick indicated that if the poll hit at least 1,000 total responses, he would give a final answer about the transmission.

We’re nearly at 1,000 responses already, but let’s make sure we hit it so we can get some update on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1′s transmission options!

The 2011 New York International Auto Show public viewing days kicked off on Friday and will continue through Sunday, May 1st.

If you’re in the area and haven’t yet checked out the Chevrolet display, we suggest that you take the opportunity to visit the show because this year’s display features a special Camaro – the 2012 Camaro ZL1 prototype!

The 2011 New York International Autoshow is now well underway. On Wednesday morning just outside the General Motors display at the Javits Center (which features the Transformers 3 Bumblebee Camaro along with a huge Bumblebee Transformer), a crew with the TLC cable show “Cake Boss” unloaded a 2,000-pound cake molded into the form of the Bumblebee Camaro from “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” The third installment in the Transformers series opens on July 1.

The cake, and the dozens of parents and children waiting for its arrival by the G.M. display, were being taped for a coming episode of the show. Joey Faugno, part of the family that owns Carlo’s Bake Shop of Hoboken, N.J., that made the cake for the show, broke down a bit of the cake’s construction.

It took about four days to make, and consists of vanilla pound cake with butter-cream frosting. And here’s a tip for at-home bakers: Rice Krispies treats were inserted to bind the cake at critical flex points.

Although it’s been nearly a week since Camaro5Fest II concluded, many members (including moderators) have just now caught their breath from last weekend’s activities and traveling.

Chevrolet Customer Service has been a welcome presence on our forums, and they now share some useful info regarding the 2012 Camaros.

According to them, the 2012 Camaro model year will begin production on July 18th. You can expect to see 2012 Camaros appear at dealers approximately 6-8 weeks after that date. Pricing will be announced as we get closer to the production date.

As most members make it home from Camaro5Fest II, they have begun to upload their hundreds of photos and videos from the entire weekend of Camaro fun. Live and experience the event vicariously through the many wonderful photos and videos they’ve shared from the event.

Judging from the nearly unanimous positive feedback from members both during and after the second annual Camaro5Fest, we think it’s safe to say that the event was once again a successful. We look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s 2012 Camaro5Fest III !

GM debuted the 45th Anniversary Camaro in public for the first time today at the 2011 Camaro5Fest II. Also making its first debut outside of an autoshow was the 2012 Camaro ZL1 (with optional black wheels). Check out their photos INSIDE.

The 2011 Camaro5Fest II officially kicks off tomorrow (Friday) AM, but nearly everyone will arrive tonight or already have. There is no doubt some great meeting and greeting happening tonight at the host hotels’ Camaro-packed parking lots.

Some early photos from the venue are already in, as well as some great videos featuring the huge caravans hailing from California [VIDEO] and Texas [VIDEO] on their way to the event.
