This has been a long time coming, but the 2016 Chevy Camaro (6th generation) prototype has finally broken cover!

Still covered in concealing camouflage, these 30+ photos are the first look ever at the next generation “2016 Camaro” due to hit the market next year. It will ride on a new platform — the Alpha platform currently used in the Cadillac ATS and CTS.

It’s also expected to be smaller and lighter than the current 5th gen Camaro.

Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago and Scott Mortara took turns launching the car from the big end of California Speedway’s unprepped dragstrip. The surface was smooth asphalt, so both drivers had to launch carefully to avoid wheelspin. With a GPS-based VBOX data logger installed in the cabin of the Z/28, they logged four 0–60–0-mph runs, with an average time of 7.08 seconds and an average distance of 327.86 feet.

Here is a 6th gen concept from designer Brian Geiszler, who did an internship at GM. After finishing with GM, he undertook this 6th gen Camaro concept on his own [see more sketches from Geiszler].

According to Geiszler:

This project was created in my 7th term Studio at Art Center. During my internship at General Motors, I designed a next generation Camaro interior, so I figured why not make it a complete car once I came back to school. The intent of the project was to add an extra level of surface sophistication and change up the proportions a bit, that’s where the fastback look came into play, which is a first for Camaro.

The NEC5 Camaro group recently rolled deep into the annual Rhode Island All Chevy Show with an impressive 60+ Camaro showing, while coming away with the show’s Best Club trophy [Photo Gallery].

They also managed to pose their cars for a special aerial shot. Can you tell what their formation spells out?

Transformers 4 opened last weekend around the world and at one of Europe’s biggest premieres (in Berlin), a Camaro5 member’s Camaro was on display as the official product placement car.

Congrats to Blacky for receiving such a distinction with his Camaro! He not only had his Camaro on display to the world, but spent some time with Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg as well.

On Saturday, June 28th Camaro5 El Paso, TX/Las Cruces, NM Chapter was invited by Allen Theaters to once again come out and provide a display for the weekend premiere of Transformers: Age of Extinction after the success and praise by local patrons of the one prior for Dark of the Moon back in 2011. Without hesitation, we accepted and aimed to provide a more elaborate and more participants to this year’s premiere by bringing 22 of Camaro5 EP/LC’s 5th Generation Camaros.

Check out this most ambitious Camaro build by the folks at G5 Carbon, dubbed the Project G5.R. The final car is bound for SEMA later this year and the goal is to shed as much weight as possible (goal of approximately 500 pounds), while also pushing the engine rearwards 2 inches and dropping it one inch, for better weight distribution and center of gravity.
