The upcoming 2011 Camaro Convertible has made Road and Track’s “Coolest New Cars of the New Year” list.

“Chevrolet is finally bringing the convertible version of its iconic muscle car to market, and we couldn’t be happier. The Camaro has always been a great-looking car, with the only major fault being its limited rear visibility, a sacrifice you make for the aggressive styling. Pricing starts at approximately $30,000 for the Camaro Convertible equipped with the potent V-6 engine. Though we’d be tempted to pay extra for the growling 426-bhp 6.2-liter V-8, which comes with a choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.”

[2010 Sales Charts and Discussions HERE]

The December 2010 Camaro sales and production figures have now been posted and what the data reveals is that 81,299 Camaros were sold in all of 2010, beating out the 73,716 Mustangs sold in 2010 and 36,791 Challengers overall, as well as in December 2010 alone.

This ends the Mustang’s 23 year reign as the muscle car sales leader. Congrats to GM and all our Camaro owners for producing and owning the 2010 muscle car king! December 2010 and overall 2010 stats are as follows:

Delivery (sales) Stats:
Camaro December 2010 Deliveries (actual sales): 5,614
Total January 2010 – December 2010 Deliveries: 81,299

Production Stats:
Camaros Produced in December: 7,075
Camaros produced in 2010: 94,433
Total Model Year 2011 Camaros produced to date: 47,216
Total Model Year 2010 + 2011 Camaros produced to date: 176,621

Compared to Competition:
Mustang sold 5,452 units in December 2010 (total of 73,716 in 2010).
Challenger sold 3,330 units in December 2010 (total of 36,791 in 2010).

In addition to the new 2012 Camaro options/features revealed a few days ago, it seems there may be a new V6 engine for the 2012 Camaro. Labeled the “LFX”, it seems to be a significant improvement on the already outstanding LLT V6 found in LS and LT Camaros.

The new engine option description is: “LFX 3.6L SIDI, DOHC, VVT, E85 MAX, Alum GM“

The LFX should displace 3.6L, like the current V6 found in the Camaro. And it’s packed to the brim with advanced technologies like Spark-Ignition Direct-Injection, Dual Overhead Cams, Variable Valve Timing, and E85 capability!!

We feel that the LFX may produce in the 325-330hp ballpark in the 2012 V6 Camaro. See HERE for our analysis.

The 5th generation Camaro build team members and the Oshawa assembly plant workers (notably Mike Judge) have often been a welcome participant in the Camaro community and their active participation shows the great pride they take in the car which they developed and produce.

Many lucky Camaro5 members have already received personally signed Camaro lithographs from Mike Judge and the plant workers, but one lucky guy (TAG UR IT) received an extra special Christmas gift from the team this year — a fully autographed radiator cover!

Here is a recent render of the upcoming 2012 Camaro Z28, which draws many of its styling cues from our spy photos and speculations in our Z28 forum.

Seen on this render is the reworked front fascia which looks close to what has been seen on the Z28 spy photos, with its aggressive front lower bumper and lip as well as the TF3 bumblebee style side cutouts/inlets. The hood has also been styled after this revealing set of spy photos of the Z28 prototype’s hood. The wheels you see are from the Camaro SSX concept, which has been speculated to be wheels which may come on the production Camaro Z28.

This cyber gray 2011 Camaro convertible (capture test fleet) with black top was spotted yesterday in Savannah, GA. This CTF convertible from Michigan was driven by a GM employee and wife along with dog going back home from holiday (Christmas) vacation. Here are some photos.

Our UAE members happen to be one of the most active regional camaro owners clubs, and they showed this once again at their latest gathering this month for a UAE National Day meet and cruise. They met at the Global Village parking lot, drove to an island in Ras Al-kheima, and ended the trip at Jumaeria, Dubai. Event photos inside.

21 San Antonio area Camaro5 members and their Camaros gathered for an early Christmas Camaro cruise recently. The mild weather allowed the members to not only cruise, but also eat and spend some time on a local lake. Some videos and photos INSIDE.

All indications are that the Camaro will outsell the Mustang for 2010, for the first time since 1985. And Ford is effectively conceding this, although they don’t seem too bothered (or give the appearance of such). According to Ford sales analyst George Pipas, “If that was important, we wouldn’t have taken a shift off at Flat Rock” which is where the plant that assembles the Mustang is located.

This sets up another interesting sales race and makes things even tougher for Ford in 2011 and 2012 as GM will be introducing the Camaro convertible and Z28 models.
