BROOKLYN, Mich. — It’s not inconceivable that by 2013 NASCAR’s top division may feature the same sorts of performance cars that currently are being integrated into the Nationwide Series.
Jamie Allison, Ford’s director of North American Motorsports, already is on record that the company would contemplate running the Mustang in the Sprint Cup Series.
Perhaps the most interesting prospect, however, is that Chevrolet may entertain running the Camaro in the Cup Series, a move the automaker declined to make when choosing the nameplate for its Nationwide car. Ford and Dodge run so-called "pony cars" — the Mustang and Challenger, respectively — in Nationwide. Chevrolet fields the Impala SS and Toyota the Camry.
“I’ll never say never,” said Pat Suhy, GM Racing’s NASCAR group manager, when asked whether Chevrolet would consider racing the Camaro. “I think a lot of it depends on what we’re talking about in terms of the canvas we’re given to work with.
The canvas we had for the car today was basically from the cowl forward and from the out[side] forward corner of the headlights kind of into the windshield. The fenders, the lower [valance], the sides, the tail, the deck lid — all that stuff is pretty common [to all Cup models].”
Though that’s hardly a green light for the Camaro, it’s enough to give muscle-car fans hope. So is the acknowledgement from Toyota that something other than the Camry could be in the offing — just not now.

Kid Rock celebrated his 40th birthday with a concert at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan this past weekend. One of the coolest parts of the whole night was when Nascar champ Jimmie Johnson appeared on the big screen to wish Kid Rock a Happy Birthday and then announced that Chevrolet’s gift to him was a special Camaro SS.
The Camaro was covered on the main floor, uncovered, and then rose up 7-10 feet and spun on a lift. It had a number 40 on the side, black wheels with black wall tires, a “Made in Detroit” fuel door and an “American Bad Ass” logo on the hood.

When we broke the news about the Z28′s (HP Edition) production date and other goodies, it was pointed out that there was no mention of the actual “Z28″ name in the national Chevy dealer meeting attended. What if Chevy chose not to call the car a “Z28″? We want to know what YOU think!

This just in from BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet, who has just attended a National Chevrolet Dealer’s meeting where among other things, the upcoming “Camaro Z28″ or “HP Edition” was confirmed and discussed! [Discussions HERE]
Here are the confirmed details from the meeting:
As for the 2012 Camaro generally, the 45th anniversary edition (which we discussed here) will be for both coupe and convertible models. It will come in carbon flash color with all black interior and unique wheels.

The 2011 SLP ZL 585 has just been tested by Motorweek and the incredible results are in – 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds! [Video Review HERE]
For those not familiar with SLP’s special Camaros, this latest 2011 SLP Camaro boasts 585bhp (gain of 10hp) over the 2010 SLP Camaro. Cosmetic improvements over the 2010 model include new front splitter and rear diffuser with Camaro Concept style exhaust tips. There’s also an adjustable coilover rear suspension option and the tires have been changed from Pirellis to Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires (no doubt a big assist in achieving the phenomenal acceleration times, 224/40F and 295/30R, on 20″ wheels.
And if you somehow aren’t impressed by the ZL 585, the company has announced that it will be building an SLP Camaro ZL1, with 750bhp (via 427 cu-in. V8) on tap! Only 69 of these Camaros will be made, to commemorate the original aluminum-block Camaro ZL1 of 1969.

Per SS-Eric, the 2011 Camaro Convertible will be the Official Pace Car of the Samsung Mobile 500 @ Texas Motor Speedway on April 9, 2011! In addition, the Camaro Convertible will also be used to do the driver introduction parade! This is the first we have heard of the upcoming convertible being a pace car, but surely not the last time.
