New England Camaro5 members gathered this past weekend for a good cause and to brighten a young muscular dystrophy victim’s day. The group of 7 Camaros convoyed to visit Adam Kamel, a 10 year old who became wheel chair bound in June due to muscular dystrophy. [Photos HERE]
Adam was given a choice of which Camaro to get a ride in and his reaction was that it was like a roller coaster. Priceless. Kudos to the New England Camaro5 group for bringing some extra cheer to Adam’s weekend!

The 2010 Camaro was named Collectible Car of the Year (out of 12 other vehicles introduced in 2010) by the Friends of the National Automotive History Collection. The announcement came at the Detroit Public Library recently.
“This selection is unique among all the ‘Vehicle of the Year’ awards, because it is selected by car buffs who know what future collectors will value,” said Charles Hyde, NAHC board of trustees chairman. “We asked our members to predict which of this year’s new vehicles will turn heads in the Woodward Cruise of 2035.”

General Motors’ COPO system — a backdoor means for building some wicked performance machines in the 1960s — may be no more, but that isn’t stopping today’s Chevrolet dealers from building bespoke performance Camaros of their own. The 2011 GM Performance Parts catalog now lists COPO-esque 2011 Camaros by DeNooyer Chevrolet in New York and NeSmith Chevrolet in Georgia. Here is the official announcement from GM:
GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Dealership-created performance packages were an important part of Chevrolet’s muscle car heritage. Names like Yenko, Nickey, Berger and others helped drive high-performance options, while enhancing the mystique of one-off collectables decades later. In fact, it was creative ordering on the part of dealers that created the legendary COPO Camaros of the late 1960s – cars available from those enterprising dealers, but not offered in any official catalog or order guide.
More than 40 years later, a couple of dealers – DeNooyer Chevrolet in New York and Georgia’s NeSmith Chevrolet – have rekindled the concept of using Chevrolet’s own parts to create specialty Camaros that simply aren’t offered in regular production. DeNooyer used GM Performance Parts’ (GMPP) LSX454 crate engine (part number 19244611) to build a modern 454 engine for the Camaro SS, while NeSmith transplanted the supercharged LS9 engine from the Corvette ZR1 into their Camaro.
“These great Camaros exemplify the spirit of dealer-built super cars that grew out of the muscle car era,” says Dr. Jamie Meyer, product integration manager for GM Performance Parts. “They are the COPO Camaros of the 21st century.”
Both cars are featured on the cover the 2011 GM Performance Parts catalog… CONTINUED HERE.

Camaro Z28 mania has gone prime time! Even major news networks have caught onto Camaro and Camaro Z28 buzz! In the past couple of days, the 2012 Camaro Z28 has been thrust back into the limelight despite the lack of any real new info. It likely had to do with this Detroit Free Press article.
The impending Z28 comeback is such big news that WXYZ-TV (ABC 7) in Detroit spent some time talking about it on a recent news broadcast. [View segment HERE]. No solid new info is revealed and the speculations are general in nature: 500-600hp, V8, 18-19mpg, debut late 2011 as 2012 model.

The Camaro has not beaten its arch rival Mustang in annual sales in 25 years. But that is set to change this year. Despite a cooling off of Camaro sales since earlier parts of this year, the 2010/2011 Camaro has shown tremendous sales this year, totaling 75,685 sold through November 2010, compared to Mustang’s 68,264 units sold. (Sales/Production stats as of November HERE).
What’s even more impressive is that the Camaro has outsold the Mustang year-to-date with only one variant (coupe version) and much fewer special edition models. The 2011 Camaro Convertible (and likely Camaro Z28) coming next year will only add to the Camaro’s overall potential sales.
Congrats to GM and our members for the 2010 sales bragging rights which look virtually guaranteed at this point. [Discussions HERE].

Jeff Buckname, driver of the very successful Sunoco Camaro #6 from this past season’s Grand-Am Contintental Tire Challenge Sports Car Series, is seeking feedback HERE from the Camaro5 community regarding interest in future Camaro motorsports and reviews coverage.
Per Jeff:
Hey Everyone,
I am the Pro-Driver of the Sunoco Camaro #6 that races in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Challenge Sports Car Series. I would really like to start going to all types of Camaro gatherings around the country to share some DRIVING TIPS!
Here are the couple of questions I have for everyone.
1. How many of you would be interested in having me out to do some driver coaching at track day events? (I can ride in the right seat giving you driver tips and I can also give you hot laps showing you the proper way to drive a Camaro FAST!!!)
2. How many of you would follow me if I did a video series on a blog that gives driving tips on and off race tracks?
3. How many of you would follow me if I did a video series on new after market Camaro products that I took to race tracks testing them and giving my feedback on how well they really perform?
4. What other things would you be interested in me covering if I had a Camaro Performance Driving Blog/video?
Btw….I am still working on my 2011 racing plans! At this point it looks good I will be back in the #6 Sunoco Camaro racing in Grand-Am.
I am a huge, huge fan of the Camaro and I really want to share my knowledge on what I have learned about the Camaro as I have raced it and done most of the development work on the Camaro Race Car.
Cheers!
Jeff Bucknum
