New Camaro Tail Lights and Side View Mirrors Revealed!

Posted by: admin In: Main ()

Seen here are the first significant cosmetic revisions to the 5th gen Camaro since its debut last year – featuring new Camaro tail lights, rear bumper reflectors, and side view mirror designs. As previously spotted on Camaro convertible prototypes at Oshawa, the new tailight design takes on a new shape resembling sunglasses. The lights are now powered by LED bulbs. The rear bumper reflectors have also been revised and have been moved into a more attractive location at the top of the rear diffuser. [All photos here]

The side view mirrors grow in size and lose some sleekness (possibly to comply with new more stringent pedestrian safety standards). Turn signals have also now been integrated into the side view mirrors to enhance safety.

If these are in fact production intent, we’re not sure exactly when these new lights will begin appearing on Camaros, but we doubt it will wait until the 2012 model year switchover, which doesn’t occur until middle of next year (nearly 8-9 months away). Or does the location of the sighting (in Germany) indicate that these are export only designs? Time will soon tell.

With the limited production run of Hennessey’s 2010 HPE700 Camaro long since sold-out, the company has announced they will build another 24 units for the 2011 model year. This latest run of HPE700′s will include the addition of the new convertible model (from Chevrolet) and an increase in power from its supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8 – the same engine found in the Corvette ZR1.

The 2011 HPE700 gets its additional power from revised boost levels and a more robust fuel system, delivering 755 bhp and 763 lb-ft of torque. This 30 horsepower increase over 2010 will also help move the convertible’s extra weight, while the large 15 inch brakes from last year remain to bring it back to a stop quickly…. <full details inside>

If you weren’t sure how serious GM is about making the 2012 Camaro Z28 with class leading performance, rest assured. The new Camaro Z28 prototype was spotted today testing at the famed Nurburgring test track in Germany. (Full photo set)

There is no camouflage bra up front as in the prototypes spotted on US soil, but there’s plenty of camouflage tape on the Z28. The air vents / inlets on either side of the bumper have been covered up, but its subtle shape can be seen underneath the tape. The upper and lower grilles looks as they have on previous spy photos, as well as the aggressive protruding lower bumper spoiler lip. The tape on the aggressive cowl contains holes to feed air or allow hot air to escape.

What is new on this Camaro Z28 prototype however, is the aggressive trunk spoiler. This is the first we have seen the Z28′s trunk spoiler design. It appears to be a nice blend of the regular ground effects trunk spoiler and the wrap around dovetail spoiler from GM.

2012 Camaro Z28 Prototypes Spotted in Colorado

Posted by: admin In: Main ()

There has been a new sighting of the Camaro Z28 prototypes. These test mules were spotted in Colorado by MidlifeMotors in the same red and blue which we recently posted. The photos are no more revealing from what we have already seen, but they do provide new angles and perspectives.

One thing is for sure, the front ends on the Z28 will be very aggressive, from the large air inlets, to the protruding lip, to the bulging hood cowl.

September 2010 Camaro Sales and Production Figures

GM has released the first official photos of the production 2011 Camaro Convertible, including some important details such as its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show next month and the starting price of $30,000 (for the V6 Camaro convertible). The following is GM’s official press release:

DETROIT – The 21st century rebirth of the Chevrolet Camaro opens a new chapter when the 2011 Camaro Convertible premieres at the Los Angeles International Auto Show on Nov. 17.

The Camaro Convertible will arrive in Chevrolet showrooms in February 2011. Starting price will be $30,000, including $850 destination. (Full details will be released later this year.)

“The Convertible will make the all-new Camaro, already a smash-hit, even more desirable to a greater range of drivers,” says Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.

The Convertible model will be available in the same basic model offering as the Camaro Coupe. The standard model will have a 312-hp Direct Injection V6 engine featuring 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The SS model will feature the 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 426 hp. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.

Camaro is America’s most popular sports car, seizing leadership in U.S. sales with the coupe model that launched in spring of 2009 as a 2010 model. The right to purchase one of the first Convertibles was recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction for $205,000, with all proceeds donated to charity.

2011 Camaro Convertible First Pics. To Debut at LA. Starting at $30k.

We bring you visual proof of the Camaro Z28 prototype testing with the supercharged LSA motor (same as that used in the CTS-V). Even if one thinks it’s suspicious that a test prototype’s engine would have any sort of engine cover bearing the name of the engine, the motor underneath does appear to be that LSA upon visual inspection. [FULL SET OF PHOTOS HERE]

For those not familiar with the LSA engine, it’s a 6.2L supercharged engine SAE certified at 556bhp @ 6100rpm and 551 lb-ft torque @ 3800rpm. That does not mean that the Camaro will come with the same power though. We could possibly see less or even MORE power.

Also seen clearly for the first time is the design of the Camaro Z28 prototype hood. There looks to be a two-row heat extractor vents design (we’ve reposted an older photo from the top-down angle for an additional view). Keep in mind however, there’s no guarantees that this is the final hood design of the Camaro Z28.

And finally, a Z28 prototype has been spotted in what appears to be aqua blue metallic (or a similar blue color). Previous prototypes have all been red.

NEC5 Goes Autocrossing

Posted by: admin In: Main ()

Posted by molloni:

Today was a very exciting day for NEC5 (New England Camaro 5). We had our first event as the regional club! As part of the New England Region Sports Car Club of America Autocross day, NEC5 partook in both the autocross racing and we held our own exclusive car show.

For those not in the know, autocross (different from motorcross – we were not on dirt roads with big jumps) is a timed event in which one car drives a flat course laid out by orange cones. There are slalom runs, gates, tight turns, and short straight ways. There are many different stock and modified classes, including Kart cars. The 5th Gen Camaros fall into the F-class, right along side the Mustangs (of which there was maybe one?). NER-SCCA ran this event at an old airfield in Devens, Massachusetts. This is the same location where the MA State Police do their officer defensive (offensive) driver training. The course was about 1.5miles long with times (for the Camaros at least) around 60 to 70 seconds. A penalty of 2seconds is added to a driver’s time for each cone knocked out.

There were 10 of us in the autocross running. We all learned something about our cars and our ability, as 9 of us were novices to the sport. The eighth runner drove his supercharged Lingenfelter modified Camaro – he’s a member of NER and he’s in it for season points

In addition to the racing, we had an additional 13 members with 11 cars come for our meet and greet and club car show (that’s 19 C5 cars total). The shine from our vehicles could probably be seen from space! … [Rest of writeup and photos/videos HERE]

The final auction price for the first customer Camaro convertible came in at an impressive $205,000.

GM products took up 3 of the top 5 sales spots. A 1981 Corvette coupe sold for $150,000 and the custom 2010 UFC Camaro coupe brought in $350,000.
